I’m interrupting this regularly-scheduled Tag Tuesday for an important announcement:
TODAY IS ELECTION DAY IN THE US AND THIS IS QUITE POSSIBLY THE MOST IMPORTANT PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION OF OUR LIFETIMES.
Sorry for the big, scary text, but this shit is serious, you guys. There’s more at stake in this election than ever before and we cannot let something as easily-fixable as voter apathy alter the course of history. The rights of women, people of color, LGBTQ individuals, the disabled, the working-class — almost everyone if you’re not a straight, white, rich cis dude, essentially — are up in the air today. These are not things that should be up for debate. These are not things that should be up for a vote, and yet our country has been forced between a rock and a hard place with a candidate and an ever-growing alt-right movement that threatens to take everything we take for granted away.
Are alternatives that much better? No, not really. Will voting for Hillary Clinton immediately make systematic racism, homophobia, sexism, ableism, classism go away? Absolutely not. Will Hillary ever come around on #BlackLivesMatter and realize that it’s a movement for good? I’m betting no.
But making sure that we don’t force our hand into bringing someone whose proposed “policies,” if you can even call those vague ramblings policies, only stand to make matters worse is truly a step in the right direction. Making sure that we don’t let a man who literally brags about committing sexual assault and is currently awaiting a trial for raping a child into office is the best step in the right direction.
Don’t give Lord Voldemort any power. I’m with Hermione.
